Lovers of HOFD will love the OST Music
|
The OST score of House Of Flying Daggers is a very moving and apt thematic music score that blends well into the stunning artistic visuals and storyline, of the whole film. Shigeru Umebayashi has created a wonderful score, with haunting melodic rhythms that will echo and resonate in you mind. The "Lover Song" sung by Zhang Ziyi at the beginning of the film; although a somewhat abstruse lyrical piece (when translated for Western audiences) sets up the relationship beautifully between Jin and Mei, gradually building through the film, and then very movingly closes the final scene of the film. The frenetic drums accompaniment in the "Echo Game", added an exciting flavour and resounding rhythms to this sequence. The later part of the score "Lovers ?Mei and Jin" is ever so reminiscent of the late great Nino Rota and his intensely touching love themes found both in Franco Zeffirellis, Romeo and Juliet and Francis Ford Coppolas, The Godfather. International opera singer Kathleen Battle singing the "Lovers" song in English at the end credits was so poignant, and concludes this whole musical work beautifully. Her superb operatic piece should appeal and strike a chord with Western audiences. The other parts of the score "Farewell ?1 and 2" in the (non bamboo) forest scenes on horseback (coincidentally shot in the Ukraine) had a lively Russian Balalaika melodic sounding type feel to it. If you liked the film, this OST will certainly evoke the beautiful imagery and intensely moving parts of the film when heard. It is certainly a music masterpiece from Shigeru Umebayashi, well worth acquiring for adding to your listening pleasure. DelboyHoLondon 19th November 2004 |
